US may impose new tariffs on goods from 60 partners, including the UK, EU, and Canada

The United States is considering introducing new tariffs on goods imported from 60 trading partners, including the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Canada. The move is linked to an investigation into the use of forced labor in global supply chains.

The announcement was made by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).

According to the agency, the investigation has been launched under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The review aims to determine whether partner countries have adequate regulations to prevent the import of goods produced using forced labor.

If the investigation identifies gaps or violations, the US administration may introduce additional tariffs on specific categories of imported goods.

Reviewing trade standards

USTR officials say the initiative is intended to strengthen oversight of global supply chains and protect workers’ rights.

The United States also aims to prevent unfair competition, where companies gain advantages by using low-cost labor or violating labor standards.

Potential impact on global trade

Analysts note that the potential tariffs could complicate trade relations between the US and several major partners, particularly the European Union and Canada.

No final decisions have been announced yet, and the results of the investigation will determine the scope and categories of goods that could face new tariffs.

Experts believe the move may be part of a broader US strategy to tighten regulation of international trade and enforce labor rights standards in global supply chains.
