The U.S. will reassess its role in NATO after the war in Iran — Rubio
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that once the war in Iran is over, Washington will assess the merits of its NATO membership.
He said this in an interview with Fox News.
According to Rubio, he previously considered the Alliance important, but now sees signs of it being a “one-way street.”
He stated that the U.S. maintains a military presence in Europe but cannot always use its bases when necessary.
The senator also questioned the wisdom of spending significant funds to station American troops in Europe.
Rubio emphasized that after the conflict in Iran ends, the U.S. may reassess its relationship with the Alliance and evaluate its significance for the country.
The United Kingdom has reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the country’s possible withdrawal from NATO. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized his commitment to the Alliance and assured that he would not allow the country to be drawn into war.
U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is because the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.
