The U.S. is halting the admission of political asylum seekers from abroad — USA Today
The United States is suspending the processing of political asylum applications from foreign nationals who are outside the country.
This was officially announced by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
According to him, the U.S. administration has decided to completely close its borders to this category of migrants, redirecting them to other countries.
The new restrictions radically change Washington’s approach to resolving the migration crisis. U.S. authorities emphasize the need to protect national interests and internal security.
All foreigners who had hoped to seek protection directly at the U.S. southwestern border will now face a firm rejection.
Administration officials consider most such requests to be unfounded and motivated solely by economic interests.
White House officials are convinced that the current asylum system has long been exploited by bad actors to illegally enter the country.
The new rules are designed to completely block these illegal channels. The U.S. government plans to enter into additional agreements with third countries so that they, rather than the U.S., will handle the processing and screening of migrants.
“America’s doors are completely closed to people seeking asylum,” Miller stated.
The deputy chief of staff also offered an extremely harsh assessment of the current situation at the national border. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies will no longer allow U.S. laws to be manipulated.
Further processing of any cases will be subject to significantly more stringent procedures.
According to him, all asylum requests at the southwestern border are always fraudulent, and most applicants are either criminals or migrants seeking benefits.
