Mass protests are being planned in Greece following a bomb attack
In Greece, the ruling New Democracy party called on its supporters to take to the streets in protest following the death of a 72-year-old woman who suffered fatal burns as a result of a firebomb attack on the home of a party candidate.
The attack took place in Thessaloniki, where unknown assailants threw burning gas canisters at three homes of local New Democracy representatives. Vagia Nestora, the mother of candidate Aphrodite Nestora, was killed in the explosions. The politician herself also suffered burns, and three other people were injured.
The Greek government has called the attack a terrorist act directed against political opponents. The police’s counterterrorism unit is investigating the incident. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The New Democracy party stated that it would not allow itself to be intimidated and announced a rally to honor the deceased and protest against political violence.

In Thessaloniki, unknown assailants carried out a series of nighttime attacks using incendiary devices near residential buildings where members of the ruling New Democracy party live. Five people were injured as a result of the arson attacks on cars and motorcycles; some of them were hospitalized with burns and smoke inhalation.
In northern Greece, a forest fire claimed the lives of two people. A 66-year-old man died, and later, a body was found in a house that, according to preliminary reports, is believed to be that of his 12-year-old son. The victim’s wife suffered burns, but her life is not in danger.
