The U.S. has deployed fifth-generation F-35A fighter jets to Misawa Air Base in Japan.
This was reported by Defence Blog.
The first aircraft arrived on March 28 as part of a strategy to strengthen the military presence in the Indo-Pacific region. The Pentagon believes this will bolster the defense capabilities of allies and deter potential threats from Russia and North Korea.
The F-35As are equipped with stealth technology, allowing them to operate undetected by radar, and also serve as data collection and processing hubs, coordinating the actions of various forces in real time.
U.S. military officials note that the deployment of these aircraft will enhance security in the region and strengthen airspace control.
Another key component is integration with Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, which are also transitioning to the F-35, enabling the creation of a unified combat operations command system.
Japan will participate in exercises in the Philippines for the first time since World War II, according to Bloomberg.
As a reminder, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has officially proposed that Japan sign a Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), which is expected to significantly simplify cooperation between the armed forces of both countries.
