The U.S. and Kuwait are preparing a major billion-dollar deal for interceptor drones

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of $1.98 billion worth of drones and related equipment to Kuwait for countering hostile drones.

This is one of the largest deals in the world in the interceptor drone segment, involving the supply of advanced counter-UAV systems and related technical support.

It is noted that the package includes solutions designed to detect and neutralize threats using both electronic and kinetic methods.

The list of approved equipment specifically includes Roadrunner and Anvil interceptors, launch systems, command software, long-range and maritime surveillance towers, electronic warfare solutions, and mobile operations centers.

What is known about the Roadrunner and Anvil interceptor drones

The proposed package involves the use of Anduril’s Roadrunner and Anvil platforms, which are designed for rapid ground launch and engagement of aerial targets.

Both systems use vertical takeoff and landing, while maintaining different architectures for different missions.

Roadrunner is an interceptor with two turbojet engines, has a fuselage approximately 2 meters long, and can reach subsonic speeds of about 1,235 km/h.

It typically uses a high-explosive warhead to neutralize drones and larger air threats, including manned aircraft and cruise missiles.

Anvil is a smaller drone capable of reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h. It is designed to intercept drones at close range using a kinetic strike, offering a less costly option for neutralization.
