US rejects Iran’s claim about mines near the Strait of Hormuz
US Central Command denied a claim by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy regarding the oil tanker El Gaia near Oman. According to the Iranian side, the vessel exploded after hitting sea mines south of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
CENTCOM’s version
According to US Central Command, El Gaia was struck by an Iranian missile last month, causing the tanker to lose its ability to move independently. Over the weekend, CENTCOM said, the vessel off the coast of Oman sustained another strike — this time from an Iranian drone.

Towing of the tanker
CENTCOM also reported that the tanker is currently being towed by a regional partner. The US command described the IRGC’s claims as another example of lies and attempts at intimidation.
