The U.S. has been carrying out strikes against Iran for the eighth consecutive day

The United States has been carrying out airstrikes on Iranian territory for the eighth consecutive day. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), a new wave of attacks began on the evening of July 18, Eastern Time.

According to the U.S. military, the targets of the strikes are facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Washington states that the operation is a response to an attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan, which resulted in the deaths of U.S. service members.

In addition, the U.S. seeks to weaken Iran’s military capabilities, which, according to Washington’s assessment, could threaten the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. To this end, strikes are being carried out against military infrastructure and weapons depots.

According to U.S. officials, 16 U.S. service members have been killed since the start of the operation, and another 420 have been wounded. One service member is also listed as missing in action.
