Trump said he sees no threat to NATO from Russia

There’s no problem,” the U.S. president replied.
Trump also commented on CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s recent trip to Moscow. Earlier reports suggested that during a meeting with Russian officials, Ratcliffe might have warned the Kremlin against any attacks or provocations against NATO countries. The U.S. president denied this information.
According to Trump, the CIA director’s visit to Russia was a routine working meeting. He also noted that Ratcliffe is in regular contact with his Russian counterpart. “Retcliffe meets with his Russian counterpart once every six months or once a year. They have a very good relationship. There was no report and nothing out of the ordinary,” Trump said.
What is known about the meeting in Moscow
On August 25, John Retcliffe visited Moscow. There, he met with Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service. The Russian side confirmed that the talks took place. Naryshkin described them as a routine part of the work of the two countries’ intelligence agencies.
According to him, issues related to intelligence were discussed during the meeting. He also stated that nothing out of the ordinary happened during the talks. At the same time, a number of media outlets had previously reported on another possible topic of the meeting. According to journalists, Retcliffe may have conveyed a warning to Moscow about the consequences of a possible attack or provocation against a NATO country.
Trump dismissed these reports and emphasized that the meeting between Retcliffe and Naryshkin was a routine working meeting. The U.S. president’s statement came amid concerns among European countries about the possible spread of Russian aggression beyond Ukraine’s borders. NATO countries have repeatedly stated their readiness to defend the Alliance’s territory in the event of an attack. The U.S. president made this statement during a phone call with an Axios reporter.
