The U.S. has launched new strikes on several cities in Iran
U.S. Central Command has launched a new series of strikes on targets within Iran on the orders of President Donald Trump. Iranian media are reporting explosions in several regions of the country.
CENTCOM confirmed the start of the strikes on Wednesday, June 11, at 5:15 p.m. Eastern Time (midnight in Kyiv). A statement from the command noted that the armed forces “carried out new strikes in self-defense against multiple targets in Iran” at the direction of the Commander-in-Chief. The reason cited was “unjustified and prolonged aggression” by the Iranian side.
An American official clarified in an interview with Axios that military ships are currently conducting “targeted attacks on a base in the port of Sirik” in southern Iran. The Iranian news agency Mehr reported that the air defense system had been activated west of the capital. At the same time, reports are coming in of Iranian missiles being launched from Tabriz.
Iranian media and regional sources are reporting explosions in several areas:
- the port of Sirik in southern Iran – a confirmed strike by U.S. ships;
- the Tehran area – air defense systems activated in the west of the capital;
- Tabriz – launches of Iranian missiles have been recorded.
Earlier in the day, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset stated that Central Command “will be busy tonight” because Iran did not take the opportunity to reach an agreement. “If we have to negotiate with bombs, we will negotiate with bombs,” the minister said. President Trump, for his part, noted that Iran “has spent too much time negotiating.”
The new strikes coincided with the arrival in Tehran of a Qatari delegation that was supposed to hold consultations on a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
This was reported by CENTCOM and CNN.
Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries and damaged U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. attempts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.
