Starmer denied facing pressure over the appointment of an ambassador to the U.S.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has rejected allegations that he pressured the Foreign Office regarding the appointment of an ambassador to the United States.

The issue concerns the appointment of Peter Mandelson, who had previously been linked to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. The day before, former Deputy Foreign Secretary Ollie Robbins told Parliament that the vetting process for the candidate took place under “constant pressure” from the Prime Minister’s office.

Starmer denied these claims and emphasized that there was no pressure. Instead, he accused the Foreign Office of failing to provide him with the results of Mendelson’s security clearance, which turned out to be negative.

According to the prime minister, it is unacceptable that the findings of the security vetting service were not brought to his attention prior to the appointment.

He also stated that Robbins’s words confirm his position, as Robbins admitted that he did not inform the government of the vetting results.

The British Prime Minister stated that the country will not get dragged into a war with Iran. He will not change this decision, even in the face of pressure from the U.S. Donald Trump had previously hinted at a possible deterioration of trade conditions for London.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has decided to postpone the signing of an agreement to transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago to the Republic of Mauritius.
