A U.S. court has suspended the creation of a compensation fund for Trump supporters

A U.S. federal court has temporarily blocked the creation of a fund that President Donald Trump’s administration planned to use to pay compensation to individuals who, in its view, were persecuted during Joe Biden’s presidency.

This was reported by Reuters.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema of Virginia has barred the administration from taking any further action regarding the creation or management of the fund until the case is resolved.

The order will remain in effect until at least June 12.

The lawsuit was filed by a group of citizens who claim that the Trump administration could use the fund to provide political support to its supporters while denying access to compensation to people with different political views.

Sky Perryman, president of the advocacy group Democracy Forward, called the court’s decision a victory for the principles of transparency and the rule of law. According to her, public funds should not be used to implement political compensation programs.

The U.S. Department of Justice unveiled the idea of creating the “Fund to Combat the Weaponization of Law Enforcement” last week. Its budget was expected to be $1.7 billion.

Under the fund’s concept, payments could be made to individuals who prove they were victims of unwarranted investigations or criminal prosecutions during Joe Biden’s presidency.

Currently, the project has been suspended pending a further court decision.

Earlier, Iran and the U.S. exchangedaccusations following new strikes.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant progress in negotiations with Tehran, noting that as part of a potential agreement, Iran could transfer its highly enriched uranium to the United States.
