Ghanaian court remands police officer in student death case
The Adabraka District Court in Accra, Ghana, has remanded police officer Robert K. Koranteng, who is accused of murdering 20-year-old law student Ivan Aprea Baidoo. According to MyJoyOnline, the next hearing was scheduled for September 29, 2026. The court did not accept Koranteng's position on the charge brought against him.
Circumstances of the pursuit
The prosecution claims that the incident occurred on August 27, 2026, on the Tema Motorway during a police pursuit of a motorcycle. Baidoo, a second-year law student at Central University, was riding as a passenger on a Yango service motorcycle driven by Samuel Wesley Arthur.
According to the prosecution, Arthur ran a red light at the University of Professional Studies intersection in Accra, where Koranteng was on duty. The police officer began pursuing the motorcycle and signaled for the driver to stop, but he continued toward Okponglo, the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and the Tema Motorway.

The prosecution's version and investigation
The prosecution stated that after the former toll booth, Koranteng allegedly kicked the motorcycle. The driver lost control, after which the motorcycle crashed into a concrete barrier. According to the prosecution, the police officer drove away without stopping to help the victims or arranging immediate medical assistance for them.
People nearby took the injured men to Tema General Hospital, where Baidoo was pronounced dead on arrival. Arthur underwent treatment and was discharged. An autopsy conducted on September 3 determined that the cause of death was hemorrhagic shock, bilateral hemothorax and hemoperitoneum resulting from blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen. The Homicide Unit took over the case on September 8, and Koranteng was arrested on September 12, the prosecution said.
