Delaware holds final primaries before US midterm elections

Delaware held the country’s final primaries on Tuesday ahead of the November 3 midterm elections in the United States. Voters selected candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives, as well as for state attorney general, Anadolu Agency reports.

Senate and House of Representatives nominations

Incumbent Senator Chris Coons defeated three opponents in the Democratic Party primary, receiving 78% of the vote. In the general election, he will face Mike Katz, who won the Republican nomination by defeating John Shulli with 77.4% of the vote against 22.6%.

In Delaware’s sole congressional district, Republican Joe Arminio won the nomination with 47.9% of the vote. With 95% of polling stations counted, Arminio was declared the winner among three candidates. In the general election, he will face incumbent Democratic Representative Sarah McBride, who ran unopposed in the primary.

Attorney general election

Incumbent Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings defeated two opponents in the Democratic primary, receiving 71.2% of the vote. Her Republican opponent will be Dave Graham, who secured the nomination unopposed.
