A New York court has set Maduro's trial for June 1, 2027
A New York court has set June 1, 2027, as the start date for the trial of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing “European Pravda” and NBC News, Judge Alvin Gellersteine issued the ruling on July 22.
Maduro and his wife were transported to court from a Brooklyn jail, where they have been held since their capture in Caracas by U.S. special forces. Both face charges of conspiracy to smuggle thousands of metric tons of cocaine into the United States. If found guilty by the court, they could face life in prison.
Protesters gathered outside the courthouse in downtown Manhattan during the hearing. They held signs calling for Maduro’s release and claiming the charges were fabricated.
On the night of January 3, 2026, the U.S. carried out a series of strikes on Venezuela. Following this, Maduro accused the United States of military aggression, and shortly thereafter, the U.S. military captured him along with his wife and transported them to New York.
