Islamabad court issues arrest warrants for CDA chairman — Dawn

A civil court in Islamabad, Pakistan, has issued bailable arrest warrants for Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sohail Ashraf. The decision is linked to the non-enforcement of a court order concerning residents who say they have not received benefits provided under a rehabilitation scheme for nearly three decades, Dawn reports.

Court order on rehabilitation

The decision was made by Civil Judge Nasirud Din during a hearing on a petition seeking enforcement of the court order. Representatives of the affected people, including barrister Adil Aziz Qazi, said that the CDA acquired the applicants’ houses, but they have not received the promised benefits under the rehabilitation scheme even after 28 years.

According to the lawyers, the court ruling has still not been fully enforced. They asked the court to ensure its effective and complete implementation.

CDA chairman’s failure to appear

The applicants’ representatives also stated that the CDA chairman failed to appear in court three consecutive times despite being served summonses. Taking into account the continued non-compliance, the court issued bailable arrest warrants for him and instructed the relevant authorities to ensure enforcement of the order.

The court also warned that failure to comply with its directions could lead to further legal action.
