Sudan will not yield to pressure or blackmail, al-Burhan says — Anadolu Agency

Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said in Khartoum that the country would not yield to “pressure or blackmail” after the United States did not issue him a visa to attend the UN General Assembly in New York. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

Speaking to young people at Khartoum Stadium during the launch of the “We Have Not Forgotten You” initiative in support of the healthcare sector, al-Burhan said Sudan’s voice would “remain loud.” Content creators and athletes took part in the event, according to the source.

“We will hold our heads high. We will not accept bargaining, we will not sell ourselves cheaply to anyone, and we will not bow to anyone,” he said. Al-Burhan also said that the Sudanese people cannot be intimidated and that the country does not need a visa to another state or anyone’s permission.

War and the US position

The head of the Sovereignty Council said his main goal was victory over the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which have been fighting Sudan’s army since April 2023. He said he seeks to remove these forces from all of Sudan’s territory, including Darfur.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over al-Burhan not being issued a visa. Separately, Sudan’s government rejected a US State Department statement of September 22, which said that neither the Sudanese Armed Forces nor the Rapid Support Forces and their leaders are the country’s legitimate constitutional authority. Sudanese authorities reaffirmed their commitment to national sovereignty and called on Washington to engage positively.
