Taanusiya Chetty takes third place at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam

Malaysia’s representative Taanusiya Chetty took third place at the Miss World 2026 competition, the final of which was held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on September 5. The 26-year-old model and English teacher became the competition’s second runner-up, Channel NewsAsia reports.

The competition was won by Yoheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic. Elizabeth Reines Alabern of Spain was named first runner-up.

A record for Malaysia

Chetty matched Malaysia’s best result in Miss World history. In 1998, the country’s representative Lina Teo also took third place. After the competition, Chetty, who is also known as Thaanu, thanked Malaysians for their support.

During the final, she also won the Beauty With A Purpose award, one of Miss World’s main honors for contestants’ community projects and advocacy work. This victory helped her advance to the competition’s top six.

Work in education and projects

According to her Miss World profile, Chetty works as an English teacher at a secondary school and is involved in modeling and community work. Her advocacy focuses on education and community development.

She also took part in the Lestari Laut project, which held educational and health-awareness activities for children from the Orang Asli people in rural areas of Malaysia. Chetty prepared for Miss World 2026 for more than 19 months and performed tarian silat, a dance element of the traditional Malay martial art, in the talent competition.

Chetty speaks Malay, English, Mandarin, and Tamil. At the end of her speech in the Head-to-Head Challenge stage, she addressed the audience in all four languages.
