Tallinn completes preliminary design for Väike-Ameerika reconstruction — ERR News

Tallinn, Estonia, has completed the preliminary design for the reconstruction of Väike-Ameerika Street and a section of Luha Street. The project presentation is scheduled for October 7, ERR News reports.

New roundabout

The reconstruction will cover Väike-Ameerika Street from Pärnu Highway to Tehnika Street, as well as a section of Luha Street between Väike-Ameerika and Koidu Street. The current five-way intersection is planned to be replaced with a roundabout designed as a public space. Intersection areas are to be raised to slow traffic.

Two-way traffic will be retained on Väike-Ameerika. At the same time, the roadway between Toom-Kuninga and Virmalise streets will be narrowed to provide more space for pedestrians. A one-way traffic option for this section had previously been considered, but it was abandoned during the preparation of the preliminary design.

Speed, parking and greenery

Near buildings No. 11, No. 13 and No. 15 on Väike-Ameerika, the roadway width is planned to be reduced to four meters. The upgraded streets will include 61 parking spaces and three short-term stopping spaces near Tallinn University of Applied Sciences.

The project also includes trees, shrubs and low-growing vegetation. A speed limit of 30 km/h will apply across most of the area, while local intersections, including near the junction of Väike-Ameerika, Luha and Kesk-Ameerika streets, will have a 20 km/h limit. Bus route No. 32 is to run along Tehnika Street in the future.
