The Born Korea has reached an agreement with Sunray to open a restaurant in Canada
The South Korean company The Born Korea has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian Sunray Group regarding cooperation in the restaurant industry. The first project will involve converting a Sunray-operated establishment in Markham, in the Toronto metropolitan area, into a restaurant under one of The Born Korea’s brands.
The companies are still selecting which brand to introduce in Markham and are developing a detailed operational plan for the restaurant. Going forward, they are also considering the possibility of opening other The Born Korea restaurants in hotels and commercial properties owned by Sunray.
According to The Korea Herald, Sunray Group operates in Canada’s hotel and real estate development sectors and manages approximately 80 hotels under the Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt brands. The CEO of The Born Korea is Baek Jeong-won, while Sunray Group is led by Rattan Gupta.

During his trip to Canada, which began on August 2, Park also met with the heads of two major food distributors. The parties discussed expanding local sales and distribution of TBK sauces and other The Born Korea products.
In the U.S., The Born Korea is partnering with a global food company on the local production of sauces for the Hong Kong Banjum Chinese restaurant chain. Production is scheduled to begin with a sweet-and-sour pork sauce, and will later expand to include the chain’s other key sauces.
The company plans to use its partner’s production facilities as one of its key supply hubs for expansion in North America. In addition, The Born Korea is working with the global company to develop ready-to-eat meal products for North American consumers.
