Trump is ready to make a decision on resuming hostilities with Iran — Axios

U.S. President Donald Trump said he will meet with his negotiating team on May 23 to discuss Iran’s latest proposal. According to him, a decision on whether to resume active hostilities could be made as early as Sunday.

He told Axios about this.

Trump stated that the odds of him either striking a good deal or “wiping them off the face of the earth” are “exactly 50-50.”

The U.S. president is expected to hold a conference call with Gulf leaders later today to discuss the situation with Iran, according to two sources familiar with the plans.

Trump told the publication that he will meet with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Saturday to discuss Iran’s latest response. Vice President J.D. Vance is also expected to join the conversation.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Saturday that Iran and the U.S. are in the final stages of discussing a memorandum of understanding to end the war. Trump said he would only agree to a deal that addresses issues such as uranium enrichment and the fate of Iran’s existing stockpiles.

“I think one of two things will happen: either I will strike them harder than ever before, or we will sign a favorable deal,” Trump said.

As a reminder, on May 23, U.S. President Donald Trump posted an image of a map of the Middle East on the social media platform Truth Social.

Earlier, Iran announced a new “control” zone in the Persian Gulf, which, according to its version, partially covers the waters of the United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi sharply rejected these claims, calling them unrealistic and provocative. Against this backdrop, tensions in the region have noticeably escalated again.

Trump is willing to wait a few more days for Iran to provide the right answer.
