Trump and Zelenskyy may meet in Turkey
A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cannot be ruled out during the July NATO summit in Turkey. Such potential talks could become one of the key diplomatic moments of the event.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the American leader’s participation during a hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. According to Rubio, despite the White House’s public disappointment with the Alliance’s activities, the United States does not plan to withdraw from the bloc and will actively participate in the summit.
“The United States is still a member of the NATO alliance, and we will be in Turkey to discuss all these issues. The President will personally attend the next meeting of NATO heads of state, where all these points will be clarified,” the U.S. Secretary of State emphasized.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that he had invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Alliance summit in the Turkish capital next month.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation will attend the summit. The head of state will lead it personally, which opens up a direct opportunity for bilateral talks with Trump on the sidelines of the summit.
Turkey has begun extensive preparations for the visit of the leaders of the world’s superpowers. According to media reports, the authorities plan to significantly strengthen security in the skies over the capital, deploying modern missile defense systems and fighter jets.
Earlier, Zelenskyystated that Russia has missiles capable of launching massive strikes every month.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement in his address to participants at the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting in Kyiv, according to the head of state’s official Telegram channel.
