U.S. President Donald Trump said he has ordered the Navy to open fire on any vessels laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Trump, the U.S. military must “shoot and destroy” any vessels, regardless of their size, if they are laying mines in the waterway.
He also noted that the U.S. is already conducting a mine-clearing operation in the strait and has ordered a significant intensification of these efforts.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s key oil transport routes, so the situation there is of critical importance to the global energy sector.
Trump has previously made similar statements regarding tough measures against vessels that could threaten the safety of navigation in the region.
Iran stated that a possible ceasefire in the war with the U.S. would only make sense if the naval blockade were lifted and Israel ceased hostilities.
