U.S. President Donald Trump announced personnel changes in the leadership of the National Intelligence Directorate, stating that current Director Tulsi Gabbard will step down on June 30, after which the duties of acting director will be assumed by experienced CIA officer Aaron Lucas.
According to Trump, Hubbard’s decision to resign is due to personal circumstances, as her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a serious medical condition—a rare form of bone cancer—and she plans to focus on her family and his treatment.
The U.S. president emphasized that Gabbard performed her duties at a high level and did “an incredible job” in her role, noting that her contribution to the intelligence agency’s work was significant and important to the administration. “She did an incredible job,” Donald Trump said, commenting on her tenure and departure from the post.
Aaron Lucas will become the new acting director of U.S. National Intelligence. He currently serves as the agency’s principal deputy director and has extensive experience serving in the Central Intelligence Agency, which, according to experts, provides him with the necessary preparation to temporarily lead the agency.
Lucas is expected to assume his duties on July 1, continuing the agency’s work during the transition period while the administration determines the long-term leadership of the U.S. intelligence sector.
