U.S. President Donald Trump gave a positive assessment of the progress of the talks between the United States and Iran. He made this statement while commenting on the latest meetings between representatives of the two countries in Qatar. According to the U.S. president, the negotiation process is moving in the right direction. “Iran’s denuclearization is going well. They’ve had very good meetings, and we’ll see. We get along very well. I think everything is going well for them,” Trump said.
He also added that, in his opinion, Iran “has come a long way.” The day before, another round of technical talks between the U.S. and Iranian sides took place in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
According to Reuters, during the meetings, the parties discussed issues of maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the possibility of maintaining a long-term ceasefire. According to the agency, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff held a separate meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar.
Qatar, along with Pakistan, is one of the mediators in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran. A Reuters source reported that Kushner and Witkoff helped lay the groundwork for further consultations but did not participate directly in the technical negotiations.
Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are continuing amid efforts by the parties to reduce tensions in the region and find a solution regarding Tehran’s nuclear program, as well as the security of one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes—the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters reports this.
