Trump called on Congress to repeal automatic U.S. citizenship by birth

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Congress to repeal the automatic granting of U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States to non-citizens. This move came in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down his previous executive order aimed at restricting this right

Trump called the current rule “costly and unfair” for the United States and described the court’s decision as “too bad” for the country, promising lawmakers his full and absolute support for legislative changes.

According to the U.S. president, the issue can be easily resolved by amending existing legislation. At the same time, legal experts and constitutional scholars point to a significantly more complex legal process, emphasizing that repealing birthright citizenship would require formal amendments directly to the U.S. Constitution. The White House has so far declined to elaborate on the administration’s next practical steps in this regard.

This was reported by the influential publication The Washington Post, citing a post by the White House chief on his social media platform, Truth Social.

A proposal to ban dual citizenship is being considered in the U.S.: Melania Trump and Elon Musk are in the crosshairs.

As a reminder, Zelenskyy signed a law on multiplecitizenship in Ukraine.
