Trump Threatened European Countries with Tariffs Over Digital Taxes

Trump Threatened European Countries with Tariffs Over Digital Taxes

U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to immediately impose 100 percent tariffs on countries that plan to tax the digital services of American tech giants.

The White House chief directed his stern warning primarily at European countries, which are currently actively discussing or already preparing to implement such financial measures.

This new escalation in trade relations stems from European lawmakers’ efforts to regulate the activities of large foreign IT corporations in their markets.

Many European countries are considering the possibility of levying additional taxes on the profits of American digital platforms. In response to these initiatives, the U.S. president promised to employ radical economic leverage.

The head of state made it clear that Washington has no intention of standing by while additional financial pressure is placed on its businesses.

Any attempts to restrict American companies will result in a symmetrical and extremely painful response for European exports.

The new restrictions will deny offending countries the opportunity to engage in profitable trade with the United States.

“Many European countries are discussing the imminent introduction of a digital services tax on American companies. Some of these countries are already close to actually implementing it. Let this statement serve as a warning: any country that introduces such a tax will immediately face a 100 percent tariff on all goods shipped to the United States of America,” the White House chief wrote.

The U.S. president announced this on his Truth Social platform.
