Trump Threatened Spain with a Halt to Trade and Visits
U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Spain ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, stating his intention to sever trade ties and halt visits between the two countries.
He made these remarks during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Trump stated that he had not communicated with Spanish officials and called the country “hopeless.”
“I don’t want to trade with Spain anymore… Cut off all trade with it,” he told members of the U.S. delegation.
The U.S. president also accused Madrid of allegedly “treating” the NATO secretary general “poorly” and failing to fulfill its obligations to the Alliance.
“Spain is a terrible partner in NATO. They don’t participate, they don’t pay,” Trump said.
In addition, the U.S. president called for an end to all visits between the U.S. and Spain.
It should be noted that Spain had previously refused to allow the U.S. to use its military bases for American aircraft heading on combat missions during the war against Iran.

As a reminder, Spain accuses Germany of acting as a “vassal” of the U.S.
Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran and his refusal to engage in negotiations.
