Trump threatened to scuttle the deal with Iran — CNN
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he may withdraw from the agreements with Tehran. According to him, this will happen if other Middle Eastern countries do not support the Abraham Accords, which are aimed at normalizing relations with Israel.
CNN reports this.
At a cabinet meeting, the U.S. president emphasized that such a move would send a strong signal, adding that the regional players in question must do this for the sake of the United States. He also expressed doubt about the advisability of signing the agreement without fulfilling this condition.
Earlier this week, Trump had already exerted diplomatic pressure on Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Qatar, demanding that they support the Abraham Accords, which were initiated during his previous presidency. At the same time, there are currently no real signs that these countries are ready to take such a step.
The White House chief noted that he aims to integrate these conditions into the overall negotiation process between Washington and Iran. However, when asked directly, he avoided making a clear statement that the conclusion of a future agreement with Tehran would be completely blocked without expanding the circle of signatories to the Abraham Accords. Trump concluded that the United States has the opportunity to sign a specific document right now, but will refuse to compromise if the agreement is not comprehensive.
