France and Norway have signed a nuclear deterrence pact — Bloomberg
France and Norway have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of defense and nuclear deterrence. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Norway’s participation would add “significant added value” to the enhanced deterrence system in Europe.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
During a joint appearance in Paris with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the French leader emphasized that Oslo would provide significant added value to strengthening this security system. For his part, the head of the Norwegian government confirmed that the two countries had officially signed a defense pact.
Emmanuel Macron, who leads the only nuclear power within the European Union, presented an initiative to deepen European cooperation in the nuclear sphere back in March during a speech delivered from a submarine off the coast of France. This project envisages a series of joint steps, including the mutual exchange of intelligence, the conduct of nuclear exercises, and the temporary deployment of aircraft capable of transporting nuclear weapons on the territories of partner countries.
In addition to Norway, Germany and Denmark have already expressed interest in the French proposal. At the same time, Paris continues to develop specialized cooperation with the United Kingdom, which also possesses its own nuclear arsenal.
