Trump refused to back a ceasefire plan with Iran — CNN
U.S. President Donald Trump did not endorse the ceasefire plan between the U.S. and Iran proposed by international mediators.
CNN reports this.
The plan calls for a 45-day truce, intended as a step toward a complete end to the war. The document was sent to Washington and Tehran as one of the latest attempts to halt the escalation.
The White House confirmed receipt of the proposal but noted that Trump did not approve it. Officials there also emphasized that the U.S. military operation in Iran is ongoing.
Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey acted as mediators in the negotiations, but indirect contacts between the parties reached an impasse last week.
Trump is expected to make a statement on the situation during a press conference at the White House.
Iran refused to unblock the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary cessation of hostilities, despite the peace initiative proposed by Pakistan.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran as early as April 6, 2026, warning of the complete destruction of critical infrastructure should negotiations fail.
Prior to this, Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened by the evening of Tuesday, April 7.
As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threatened a “harsh response” to ships.
The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
