Trump will attend the G7 summit in France despite tensions with allies
U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the G7 summit, which will take place in June in France. The trip comes amid disputes between Washington and some of its allies, but U.S. participation in the G7 remains confirmed.
An unnamed White House official told Axios about this.
According to the official, during the summit, Trump will participate in discussions on artificial intelligence, trade, and the fight against crime.
U.S. leaders traditionally attend the annual summits, but Trump’s participation was not guaranteed due to his dissatisfaction with G7 member countries—such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy—which did not support his military actions in Iran.
A White House representative stated that no specific agreements will be signed at the G7 meeting, but an attempt will be made to reach a consensus on which future agreements can be based.
The website also notes that the G7 summit coincides with Trump’s birthday—he will turn 80 on June 14.
The meeting will take place from June 15 to 17 in Évian-les-Bains, in southeastern France. And although Iran will likely be on the agenda, Trump wants to discuss business matters.
The war in Iran continues to cast a shadow over relations between the U.S. and nearly all of its key allies in the G7 and beyond. Even if an agreement is reached by mid-June, a certain animosity may still linger in the air, the portal adds.
Earlier, Trumppointed to the catastrophic consequences of a mistake in choosing a successor—Fortune.
