Trump caused a scandal involving Netanyahu and accused him of ingratitude — Axios
During a phone call, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong dissatisfaction with the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The American leader called the head of the Israeli government “crazy” and accused him of ingratitude due to the continued military escalation in Lebanon.
According to sources, the White House believes that Tel Aviv’s behavior seriously threatened to derail important negotiations with Iran.
During an emotional conversation, the White House chief bluntly told the Israeli prime minister that the regular bombings of Beirut only exacerbate Israel’s international isolation.
U.S. officials note that the president did not hold back his emotions and reminded Netanyahu of his strong support during the corruption trial.
According to Trump, it was his political and diplomatic intervention that allowed the Israeli politician to avoid actual imprisonment.
“You’re out of your damn mind. You’d be in jail if it weren’t for me. I’m saving you. Everyone hates you right now. Everyone hates Israel because of this,” one U.S. official quoted Trump as saying.
Another informed source in the U.S. administration clarified that at one point during the conversation, the American leader shouted directly, “What the hell are you doing?”
In response to this pressure, Benjamin Netanyahu merely remarked briefly: “Okay, okay, just make sure everything is taken care of.”
Separately, the U.S. president expressed deep concern over the rapid rise in civilian casualties in Lebanon.
He categorically objected to military tactics in which the Israeli Air Force completely destroys multi-story residential buildings in order to eliminate a single Hezbollah commander.
As a result of this harsh intervention, Israel was forced to adjust its plans and confirmed that no further massive strikes on targets in Beirut are planned.
Axios reports this.
