Trump considers the proposal for a ceasefire with Iran insufficient
U.S. President Donald Trump called the proposal for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran a "significant step," but said it was still "not enough."
CNN reports this.
“They made a proposal, and it’s an important proposal. It’s an important step. It’s not good enough, but it’s a very important step,” Trump told reporters about the plan proposed by countries working to end the war.
“They are currently negotiating, and they have taken a very important step. We’ll see what happens,” he added.
Trump made these comments at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, where he also reiterated that Iran’s leadership is now “much more reasonable.”
“The first regime was eliminated, the second regime was eliminated. Now the third group of people we’re dealing with isn’t as radicalized, and we believe they’re actually much smarter,” he said.
A ceasefire plan was sent to the United States and Iran late Sunday and is seen as a last-ditch attempt to prevent massive strikes on Iranian power plants and other infrastructure, which Trump has threatened if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had received a request from the new leader of the Iranian regime asking for a ceasefire. Trump is willing to consider this possibility only on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is fully opened for the free and safe passage of ships.
As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and is threatening a “harsh response” to ships.
The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
