Lithuanian Prime Minister Found Himself at the Center of a Scandal Over His Dissertation
ISM University of Management and Economics in Lithuania will launch an investigation into a possible breach of academic integrity by Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius. The investigation was prompted by suspicions of possible plagiarism in his doctoral dissertation.
The university noted that its Ethics Committee has decided to review a complaint submitted by the Office of the Ombudsman for Academic Ethics and Procedures regarding alleged violations in Sinkevičius’s doctoral dissertation.
The university emphasized that academic ethics issues affecting all students and alumni are addressed through a uniform procedure, regardless of their position or status.
A decision will be made after evaluating all information gathered during the investigation and hearing from the parties involved.
According to current regulations, a decision must be made within 30 calendar days, excluding the summer break. ISM plans to publish the results of the investigation by the end of September.
