The Škoda Group is preparing a major rebranding; here's what will change for its cars
The Škoda Group has announced a complete rebranding, which will be gradually implemented over the next few years. The company has already begun the rebranding process and plans to complete it by June 2029.
As part of these changes, the visual style, corporate identity, and brand positioning are expected to be updated. However, it has not yet been disclosed whether the rebranding will directly affect Škoda’s vehicle lineup.
"The news of Škoda’s large-scale rebranding undoubtedly came as a big surprise to the market. However, some clarification is needed here. This time, we’re not talking about Škoda as a car manufacturer, but about the Škoda Group and Škoda Transportation. This is a company engaged in the development, production, and sale of trams, trolleybuses, locomotives, and subway trains,” the article clarified.
The Škoda Group has a specific plan. It wants to develop a new brand concept, change its trade name, and revamp its visual identity. Therefore, a total revolution is brewing in the market. The Czech company understands this and therefore expects the process to be a long one.
It is noted that the Škoda Group’s rebranding must be completed by June 2029 so that the brand is ready in time for its 170th anniversary, as the engineering plants were founded in 1859.
“The new identity should reflect the Czech industrial tradition while also supporting the group’s international growth,” the company emphasizes.
Thus, the rebranding is intended to serve as a retrospective of what has been achieved over nearly 200 years, as well as to prepare the company for the challenges of the coming years.
“Our name will change, but what matters most will remain the same: our employees, technical expertise, quality, and commitment to the further development of modern public transportation,” emphasized Petr Novotný, president of the Škoda Group.
“Škoda” will change, but not “Škoda Auto”
It should be noted that the “Škoda” automobile brand also once belonged to this company. It was acquired by the company in 1925, and this is where the name of the automotive brand originates. However, immediately after the fall of communism, the manufacturer decided to sell the division that produced cars.
It is noted that since 1991, the German Volkswagen Group has been gradually acquiring Škoda Auto’s shares. Currently, the passenger car manufacturer is wholly owned by Volkswagen Group. Therefore, the rebranding will not affect Škoda’s automotive division, as it has a different owner.
Škoda Group is one of the leaders in the European public transportation market. Vehicles of this brand are operated, in particular, on the Warsaw Metro. The group employs approximately 10,000 people and operates manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic, Finland, and Turkey, among other locations. Today, the Škoda Group is owned by the Czech investment group PPF, which operates in 25 countries. Its assets are valued at 44.1 billion euros, and it employs 47,000 people.
