Trump says he does not regret starting the war with Iran
US President Donald Trump said he does not regret starting the war with Iran and that, if he had the opportunity to make the decision again, he would do the same. In an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, he said he would attack Iran despite the possible impact of this decision on the US midterm elections.
As CNBC reports, Trump explained his position by the threat of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. According to him, Tehran would then use them, “destroy” Israel and the Middle East, and could also strike American cities.
Duration of the war
The president’s comments came amid market expectations that the war would be prolonged. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that senior White House officials had discussed with Trump the possibility that the conflict with Iran could last longer than his current presidential term.
Trump also said that the war would end immediately after the midterm elections and that oil and gas prices would decline. In an interview with NewsNation, he said he did not know whether Iran could withstand the current economic pressure, but expected a settlement after the elections or possibly earlier.

Sanctions against banks
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced sanctions against a “large bank” next Monday. He explained that the administration planned to do this on Monday to honor the memory of those killed on September 11.
According to Bessent, the administration has already imposed sanctions and shut down the Dubai branches of Egypt’s second-largest bank, which, he claimed, provided Iran with $1.8 billion. He also announced sanctions against Turkey’s largest bank, which, he said, had provided funds to Iran, without naming the institutions.
Separately, Trump denied reports of damage to US facilities after Iran said it had hit several US fighter jets at a base in Jordan. The US president said there had been no damage.
