Rachel Rabin-Yaakov, sister of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, dies in Israel
Rachel Rabin-Yaakov, the sister of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, an educator and one of the founders of Kibbutz Manara near the border with Lebanon, has died in Israel at the age of 101. Her funeral is scheduled to take place on Monday, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Rachel Rabin-Yaakov was born in Tel Aviv in 1925 to Rosa and Nehemiah Rabin. She was three years younger than Yitzhak Rabin. Her mother, Rosa Rabin, known as “Red Rosa,” was an activist in the labor movement, a member of the Haganah and a member of the Tel Aviv City Council.
Founding Manara and work in education
In 1943, when she was 17, Rabin-Yaakov, as a member of the Ha-Noar Ha-Oved Ve-Ha-Lomed youth movement, joined a group that settled on a rocky hill on the border with Lebanon. She thus became one of the founders of Kibbutz Manara.
She later helped establish the Emek Ha-Hula regional school, which she also headed. Rabin-Yaakov became one of the leading educators in the Upper Galilee. She also dealt with issues related to the development of the border community, including finding new members for the kibbutz.

Preserving Yitzhak Rabin’s legacy
After Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination in 1995, his sister devoted herself to preserving his legacy. Through the Rabin Center, she lectured to students and military personnel, promoting the values of tolerance and democratic dialogue.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog called her life path an example of educational and public service and expressed condolences to her family and the Manara community. The kibbutz said that Rabin-Yaakov was one of the pillars of the community and played a significant role in shaping Manara.
After Manara was damaged and evacuated as a result of shelling and anti-tank fire during the recent war in northern Israel, she left her home in the kibbutz and moved to an assisted living facility in Kvutzat Kinneret.
