Trump said he is selling weapons to NATO countries, not to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is selling weapons not to Ukraine, but to NATO countries. According to him, Vladimir Putin, the leader of the aggressor state Russia, allegedly understands this approach.

Trump wrote about this on the social media platform Truth Social in a post dedicated to Iran. The U.S. president also stated that he trusts the Chinese leader and Putin when they say they are not selling weapons to the Islamic Republic.

“He understands that I’m selling weapons not to Ukraine, but to NATO countries. They pay full price, and I have no idea how exactly these weapons are distributed,” Trump noted.

The PURL initiative allows Ukraine’s European NATO allies, Canada, and other partners to purchase ammunition and weapons from the U.S. and subsequently transfer them to Ukraine.

Earlier, during the public portion of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit on July 8, Trump stated that the U.S. would grant Ukraine the right to manufacture Patriot systems. Zelenskyy reported that following a political agreement with Trump, technical work to implement it is set to begin.
