Trump said that Putin has no plans to attack NATO territory
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has no intention of attacking NATO territory.
Trump was asked about the drone incident at Leipzig Airport in early August, for which Germany blamed Russia.
The reporter also reminded the U.S. president of his previous promise that, under his leadership, Russia would not attack NATO territory.
In response, Trump stated that Moscow has no such plans.
“I don’t think Putin… I talk to him. I know him very well. Putin has no intention of attacking NATO territory,” Trump said.
Explaining his assessment, the U.S. president emphasized that he knows Putin well and maintains contact with him.
Thus, Trump once again stated that he does not expect a direct Russian attack on NATO countries, despite European nations’ concerns over Russian actions and drone incidents.
The U.S. president made these remarks while speaking with reporters at the White House.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced their intention to strengthen the response to Russia’s actions after Germany accused Moscow of a failed drone attack on the Leipzig/Halle. von der Leyen called this incident “a new escalation” on European Union territory.
The NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia will conduct the Oak Projection exercise at the Selia military training area from September 5 to 14. The exercises are intended to test and improve the units’ ability to move, deploy, and maintain combat readiness away from their permanent bases.
