Three Chinese ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz after coordinating with Iran

Three Chinese ships recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz, said Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hinting at coordination with Iranian authorities.

CNN reported this.

According to her, “after coordinating with the relevant parties, three Chinese ships recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz.”

Mao emphasized that “the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent waters are a route for international trade in goods and energy resources,” and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to restore peace and stability in the Persian Gulf.

Iran had previously stated that vessels not considered hostile could pass through the strait provided they coordinated their actions with Iranian authorities. In recent days, vessels linked to Iran, China, India, and Pakistan have passed through the strait.

Iranian officials also noted that they are charging fees for the safe passage of some tankers. These comments followed the March 23 publication of a report by Lloyd’s List Intelligence, which stated that at least two vessels had paid large sums to cross the strait.

As a reminder, Thailand and Iran have agreed on the safe passage of Thai oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision will reduce the risk of fuel supply disruptions for the country and ensure greater stability for the energy market.

Ships now payup to $2 million to use the “safe corridor” controlled by Tehran. The first to use it was a Chinese container ship near Larak Island.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the launch of a U.S. insurance program to encourage ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
