The Netherlands is concerned that U.S. weapons intended for Ukraine could end up in the Middle East

The Dutch government and parliament have expressed concern about whether Ukraine will receive the promised U.S. weapons.

This was reported by NOS.

The concern is that missiles and ammunition for air defense systems could be diverted to the Middle East, where the U.S. and Israel are waging war against Iran.

Under the agreement, the U.S. supplies weapons to Ukraine, while European countries finance them. At the same time, the Netherlands fears that due to shifting priorities, deliveries may be delayed or reduced.

Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen stated that NATO has assured them that weapons already paid for will be delivered to Ukraine. At the same time, he acknowledged that concerns remain.

Among the reasons cited for the delays is that the U.S. has redirected its transport resources to the Middle East, so some of the shipments to Ukraine must be made by sea, which takes longer.

The Netherlands also emphasizes the need to develop European alternatives to American weapons, while stressing the importance of maintaining U.S. support for Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington does not rule out the possibility of redirecting weapons intended for Ukraine to operations in the Middle East.
