A man was sentenced to three months in Poland for leaving luggage at the airport

A court in Poland sentenced a 28-year-old man to three months in prison for leaving his luggage unattended at Chopin Airport in November, which led to a mass evacuation of passengers.

This was reported by RMF 24.

On the evening of 21 November, services received a report of an abandoned suitcase with an electronic device in the open area of the terminal. Nearly 500 people had to be evacuated from the premises, and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene. After checking, no dangerous items were found in the luggage.

Law enforcement officers established that the suitcase had been brought to the terminal about three hours before the incident by a 28-year-old Polish man, who then immediately left the airport. He returned later, and at around 3 a.m., the police detained him.

Due to the unusual behaviour of the detainee, the district prosecutor's office took up the case, after which the investigation was transferred to the military department of the district prosecutor's office. The court ruled to remand the man in custody for three months.

Poland will receive €44 billion from the EU to strengthen its defence.
