Tsahkna says there are no Russian troops near Estonia’s borders — ERR News
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said in New York, United States, that there are no Russian troops near the country’s borders. He also said that talk of a possible war is being used to spread fear, ERR News reports.
Statement at a forum in New York
Tsahkna made the statement at the start of an official visit to the United States during the UN General Assembly high-level week. At a discussion on NATO’s eastern flank as part of the Concordia Summit, he spoke alongside former Polish President Andrzej Duda.
According to the Estonian minister, calm remains near Estonia’s borders because the forces of the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, are engaged in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed the need to be prepared for further provocations and sabotage by Russia against states supporting Ukraine.

Threat assessment and support for Ukraine
Tsahkna said that claims about Russia’s readiness for a military confrontation with NATO do not correspond to reality. According to him, the threat assessment for Estonia has not changed, while intimidation is intended to weaken further support for Ukraine.
An informal meeting of EU foreign ministers was also held in New York. Tsahkna emphasized the need to support Ukraine militarily and economically ahead of winter.
During the visit, the Estonian foreign minister took part in an informal meeting of global economic leaders organized by the World Economic Forum and also held bilateral talks with the foreign ministers of Costa Rica and Qatar, UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset.
