Swedish Central Bank advises citizens to hold cash in case of emergencies
The Swedish Central Bank has recommended that citizens withdraw cash in preparation for potential military conflicts, advising them to keep at least 1000 Swedish kronor (approximately $110) as a weekly reserve to pay for food, medicine, and other essentials.
This advice aims to ensure that individuals are prepared for emergencies where access to cashless payments or electronic services might be disrupted. Similar recommendations have been issued previously in countries facing heightened geopolitical tensions.
Having a certain amount of cash on hand will enable people to promptly cover their basic needs in critical situations, thereby increasing the safety and comfort of citizens.
