Central Asian countries have tightened border controls due to the threat of Russian plague
Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan have introduced additional health and quarantine measures at their national borders following reports of a possible case of a particularly dangerous infectious disease in Russia’s Irkutsk Region.
In Kyrgyzstan, all health and quarantine checkpoints have been placed on high alert to conduct epidemiological surveillance of people, vehicles, and cargo. In Uzbekistan, the Committee on Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare has placed the situation under special monitoring to prevent the introduction and spread of the infection.
In Tajikistan, preventive screenings of travelers have also been intensified at border checkpoints: specialists are taking temperatures with non-contact thermometers, asking citizens about symptoms of illness, and using disposable protective clothing. The authorities in these countries are taking precautionary measures to minimize the risk of introducing particularly dangerous infectious diseases.
