Civilian widows of Russian military personnel have filed a lawsuit over the suspension of benefits
The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has received a lawsuit against the Federal Assembly, which passed amendments regarding payments in the event of the death of war veterans.
This is reported by Russian media.
Under the new rules, compensation will be paid only to common-law wives who have a child with the servicemember and have lived with him for at least three years. The plaintiff, Alexandra Tokareva, believes that these changes violate the principle of equality of citizens before the law and are unconstitutional.
About 450 women have joined the initiative group seeking to repeal the amendments and restore the payments. Meanwhile, the State Duma states that it has no plans to reconsider the decision, explaining that in many cases, the deceased may have had several common-law partners at once.
