CIA and MI5 can eavesdrop through Samsung smart TVs

According to reports, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) together with the British intelligence service MI5 use a technology called Weeping Angel which puts Samsung smart TVs into a “fake-off” mode. In this mode, users believe the device is turned off, but the TVs continue recording conversations in the room and send them to a secret CIA server via the internet.

This technology is designed for covert information gathering using common household devices without the owners’ knowledge. The use of such methods raises concerns about privacy and the security of personal data of smart TV users.

Going forward, cybersecurity and the protection of personal space will become increasingly important as remote information-gathering tools through internet-connected devices continue to evolve.
