Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have purchased the Gothic Strancally Castle and a 178-hectare estate in County Waterford, Ireland. The couple plans to use the estate as a place to stay during their visits to the country, according to The Guardian.

The value of the private transaction has not been disclosed. However, The Irish Times, which first reported the sale, estimated its value at between 20 million and 30 million euros. According to The Guardian, the lower end of this estimate is approximately 17 million pounds sterling.

A spokesperson for Zuckerberg stated that Mark and his family are delighted to continue caring for the historic home and spending time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters.

The castle was built in 1830 for John Keely, a former Conservative MP. The design was developed by architects James and George Richard Payne. According to the book *The Houses of Ireland*, it takes four and a half minutes to walk briskly from the dining room to the kitchen in the building.

The previous owners—Michael Allen-Buckley, co-founder of the London-based investment firm RAB Capital, and his wife Giancarla—purchased the estate in the early 2000s and restored it. Ireland’s National Architectural Heritage Service notes that the castle’s construction from sandstone and hewn limestone attests to a high level of masonry and craftsmanship. Strankalli is located in the Blackwater River valley, where there are other historic estates.
