Turkey and Kazakhstan have agreed to jointly produce ANKA drones
Turkey and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for the production and maintenance of TAI Anka drones in Kazakhstan. The agreement was reached between the parties in Ankara and Astana. The project involves localizing production, as well as developing service and technical infrastructure for drone maintenance in the region.
The agreement was signed during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Kazakhstan, according to the IHA news agency.
“An agreement was signed between Turkey and Kazakhstan to establish a joint venture for the production and maintenance of ANKA unmanned aerial vehicles,” the news agency reports.
The signing took place following talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
“The aim of the agreement is to develop cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry and to strengthen the production, service, and technical capabilities of the ANKA platform in Kazakhstan,” the news agency notes.
In total, following the meeting between the presidents, 13 agreements were signed in the fields of trade, energy, education, transportation, and the defense industry.
The ANKA drone is one of Turkey’s key medium-class UAVs with a long flight duration, used for reconnaissance, surveillance, and strike missions.
Turkey has depleted its foreign exchange reserves to a record low due to the war in Iran.
Earlier, analysts at Chainalysis identified a trend toward the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins in Turkey amid the rapid decline of the Turkish lira. Mass protests took place in the country due to the collapse of the national currency, and President Erdogan was forced to dismiss the finance minister.
In January–April 2026, Turkey reduced imports of Russian goods by $3.5 billion, or 22.8%, compared to the same period last year.
